OUR LONGEST PLAYING MEMBER ANNE HALL SHARES HER JOURNEY AT THE HOSM  BOWLS CLUB

ann hall hosm bowls longest playing memberIt was around 1964/66 when I joined HOSM Bowls Club, but at that time the club was men only and as a female this did not bode too well with the current members.  However, the fact that they were short of players and new members opened the door for us.

There were about six or seven ladies joined at the same time, but alas there are now just two of us left, Enid Keene who no longer plays and myself.

The first meeting I went to Was at the Blacksmiths Arms.  One of the members, Mr Charlie Wilkinson heard about a pavilion that was for sale at the Yorkshire Show.  He bought the pavilion and said we could pay him back when we had the money.  Everyone worked very hard to pay to for it, we had coffee mornings, jumble sales etc, and we managed to pay him back within six months.  Some of the men were very handy doing jobs and we soon got the pavilion looking good.  The same pavilion  is in use today and is still in good order.

We only had friendly matches in those days, until a man called Terry Crossley joined the club and took us into the leagues, he was also responsible for starting indoor bowls, so we have a lot to thank him for.

Until recently I have been lucky enough to play with the Humberside County team alongside some other club members.  I was awarded my County Colours in 1995 and was proud to wear them up to 2013, during that time won the Northern Zone Cup against other counties in the group, John Hemming, Peggy Pillinger and I were picked to play with the Humberside team against a touring England team at Howden School.

I still enjoy playing in our league, friendlies and our club competition matches.

Over the years I have made many friends and met a lot of excellent players from all over the country.

I wouldn't change a thing!
